About the Customer
The customer operates a hotel in East Nusa Tenggara. Its cooling tower supports the building’s HVAC system and is essential to maintaining reliable guest services in the region’s warm climate.
The 800 HRT system circulates approximately 700 m³ of water per hour. Consistent cooling performance is therefore important not only for occupant comfort but also for energy control, equipment protection, and predictable maintenance planning.

The Challenge
The cooling tower received high-LSI water that encouraged mineral scale to form on heat-transfer and metal surfaces. Over time, the deposits became hard and difficult to remove while corrosion placed additional pressure on the system’s components.
The combined effects reduced heat-transfer performance and made the cooling tower more difficult to operate efficiently. The hotel faced several related risks:
- Persistent hard-scale accumulation.
- Corrosion of exposed metal surfaces.
- Higher energy demand as heat-transfer performance declined.
- More frequent and labor-intensive maintenance.
- Shorter useful life for cooling-system components.
- Potential downtime affecting HVAC reliability and guest comfort.
Earlier cleaning and chemical-dosing approaches did not remove the deposits effectively during continuous operation. The facility team needed a treatment program that could work online, gradually address existing deposits, and protect the system against further scale and corrosion.
The Solution
The maintenance team implemented Hydro 215, a multipurpose scale and corrosion inhibitor containing dispersant polymers, organophosphonate, and orthophosphoric acid stabilizers.
Hydro 215 was selected for its ability to support online cleaning and ongoing protection within the cooling tower’s operating conditions. The program used continuous dosing within a 50–150 mg/L application range and a system pH range of 7.0–9.0.
Continuous treatment allowed the dispersant action to loosen and suspend existing mineral deposits gradually. At the same time, the inhibitor package helped protect exposed metal surfaces from corrosion. This approach enabled the hotel to continue operating the cooling tower while improving the condition of the system, avoiding the need for an extended shutdown solely for deposit removal.
The treatment program was monitored as deposits softened and system performance stabilized. Routine maintenance could then remove the loosened material more easily.
The Results
After Hydro 215 was introduced, the hotel reported meaningful improvements in cooling-tower operation and maintenance.
Existing scale deposits softened and became easier to remove during scheduled maintenance. New accumulation was better controlled, reducing the burden on the facility team. More stable heat transfer supported lower energy demand, while corrosion protection helped preserve the condition of cooling-system components.
The main operational benefits included:
- Softer scale deposits that were easier to remove.
- Better control of new scale accumulation.
- More stable cooling-tower performance.
- Improved heat-transfer efficiency.
- Lower energy demand compared with the affected condition.
- Easier and more predictable routine maintenance.
- Reduced risk of unplanned operational interruption.
- Better protection of metal surfaces against corrosion.
- Support for longer equipment service life.
The result was a more manageable treatment and maintenance program that supported reliable hotel operations and guest comfort.
Customer Testimonial
“After implementing Hydro 215, we observed a remarkable improvement in the performance of our hotel’s cooling tower. The scale deposits that were previously difficult to remove began to detach easily, and the system became significantly more stable.
Cooling efficiency increased, energy consumption decreased, and maintenance became far more manageable without requiring long operational downtime. We are highly satisfied with the results, and Hydro 215 has proven to be an effective and reliable solution for addressing both scaling and corrosion issues in our facility.”
